MHS Student Attends Summer Leadership Academy

MILANO, Texas -- Summertime for students is all about fun and relaxation, but for Milano Junior High student Samuel Ybarra the break was also an opportunity to grow. Ybarra attended the 2018 Lone Star Leadership Academy in San Antonio and Austin, a selective experience designed to improve students’ leadership abilities, independence, and networking skills.

The Lone Star Leadership Academy selected its participants based on their academic success, involvement in school and community activities, and prior demonstration of leadership abilities.

Once chosen, Ybarra attend a weeklong summer camp. Mornings were spent in groups learning new leadership skills, while afternoons were spent touring historical and significant sites in the San Antonio/Austin area. A few of the sites visited were the Natural Bridge Caverns, the Alamo, the burial grounds of Stephen F. Austin, and the Texas State Capitol.

Milano ISD would like to recognize and commend Samuel Ybarra for the hard work  required for selection into this summer academy, and for being part of what makes Milano students so great: their dedication to self-enrichment and improvement.
